The Ark Sunday School

Leaders: ANITA - Tel: 01423 340209 & JENNY - Tel: 01423 340881
Welcome to 'The Ark' Sunday School. We hope you will decide to join us and have fun with our group.
We meet every other week during term time, usually at 9.45am for an hour. As the village hall is not in
use at the moment, we are meeting in the church if there is no service on and at the village pub if we
clash with a service. Due to this situation, we are not able to join in with the end of the service as often
as we would wish. However, we do play an active role in many of the festivals at Church like Christmas,
Mothering Sunday, Rogation etc. We also run a toy service in the summer.
The Sunday School has a substantial free library of books, story tapes, videos and DVDs for the children
to borrow from each session.
We have a prayer book which circulates between the children and the are encouraged to write or draw a prayer
on any topic they wish - this is then shared at the next meeting.
Our aim is to have a good time together whilst encouraging Christian values and learning about the church and
the bible.
Each term we aim to do some art work, some drama or singing and learn about a topical event/festival.
We have an outing in the summer when we encourage the whole family to come along for a day out. We have been to
Lotherton Hall and to Tropical World in Leeds.
We try to do our bit for charity - we have previously bought 100 school dinners from Oxfam and we have sponsored
a rescue donkey called "Mary" - see Notice Board for more details.
Information about our activities can be found in the Link magazine each month, and we have a scrap book of photos
etc on our notice board at the back of the church.
We fund ourselves so we take a coin collection at the start of each session, this money is used for buying
materials, juice, biscuits and items for our attendance pot! (The children stamp a card each session they attend
and when they have six stamps, they get a dip in the pot which contains things like badges, pencils and balls.)
All children over 4 years old are very welcome to join us, or if you would like more information, just call our number
which is at the top of this page and we'll be glad to tell you more!
We hope to see you soon.
Best wishes,
All the Leaders.
News & Agenda
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year to you all; and a slightly belated "WELL DONE!" to all our members who took part
in our service - you were great!
As you can see below, we have planned the program for the spring term and it runs fortnightly up until
the Mothering Sunday service when there is just a one week gap.
We then continue two weeks later with our final meeting of the term.
We begin with our 2nd anniversary party when the children from Scotton Sunday School will be joining us.
We hope the children will enjoy spending their gift vouchers. NB - Wesley Owens is at 11 Commercial St, Harrogate.
The themes for the term are fairly self explanatory but just a quick reminder that we play a very active role
in the Mothering Sunday service, performing, giving out gifts, serving refreshments etc so please try to come along
and support the children if you can.
If any of you have not been into church over the holiday you may not know that we have adopted a donkey. Her name is
Mary and lots of information about her is on the board at the back of the church - please have a look - and borrow the
video if you wish.
Finally, we are having a "Hair Night" at Watkins Wright - 88 High Street, Knaresborough, - on 7th February. Ticket price
is £6.50 which includes a glass of wine, free gifts, and discounts on bookings. Funds are going to the church - please ask
Anita for tickets or more information.
