Village Hall Update and Auction of Promises and Items
It's time for an update on the progress towards the new Village Hall.
You will recall that all design plans are in place, we have planning permission and we are now working hard to raise the funds needed.
We actually need £180,000; so far we have around 10% of this. So how do we raise the remaining 90% ? At the moment we are applying for grants. Grant providers such as the Big Lottery Fund could, in theory, allocate us the necessary funds. We are, however, in competition with many other applicants, nevertheless we do hope that substantial grants will be forthcoming. Our case for providing our communities with a meeting place is good.
It is vital that we continue fund raising events because undoubtedly we will need to make up the difference between grants obtained and the total cost.
So far we have had some successful and enjoyable events- the Loftus Hill Musical Evening raised £2,400, the Strawberry Fayre £500 (despite the weather), our Fashion Show £325 and the Quiz night £400. In addition we have received £500 from the Arkendale 10K Run and £225 from the Coneythorpe Boxing Day Fun Run.
We now need a big Fund Raising Event - on November 9th we are organising a PROMISES AND ITEMS AUCTION at Loftus Hill. Your participation in this is really important in providing the promises and items and in snapping up the bargains at the auction.
What could you promise?
What are your skills?
Do you have any contacts who might donate to the auction?
Examples from similar auctions include:
gardening, loads of manure, holidays, cooking, car rides, golf, riding lessons, C.V. writing, elocution lessons, car cleaning, massages/beauty, piano lesson, fishing, decorating, painting, photography, baby sitting, tractor driving
Plus, of course items which can be auctioned. - Not jumble!
Please phone Caroline Houseman (340240) Jean Cox (340586) with your offers and ideas.
Do come along to the event which will be conducted by a professional auctioneer in the very special surroundings of Loftus Hill. It will also be a social evening with bar facilities.
Lastly we have taken the decision to demolish the old hall. This will cost around £3,000 and we will commence work as soon as funds are available. At the moment we have to retain all our funds due to one major grant provider requiring us to have a substantial percentage available as a condition of them granting funds.
We hope you have found this update informative, do keep an eye on the web site www.arkendale.net and if you have any questions do speak to one of the committee members listed below. Additional members would be welcomed - Jane Watson from Coneythorpe has just joined us and there is space for more.
Yours sincerely,
Alan Stokes
On behalf of the Village Hall Committee
